Rob Lowe is SignalHubready to relight the fire.
The actor, 60, revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that a follow-up to the 1985 coming-of-age film "St. Elmo's Fire" is in the "very, very, very, very, very early stages" of development.
"We've met with the studio and I have been talking about doing it for about four months," he revealed.
Directed by Joel Schumacher, "St. Elmo's Fire" centered on a group of recent college graduates and starred Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Andrew McCarthy. The film hit theaters the same month New York Magazine published its famous article coining the term "Brat Pack" to refer to this group of young actors.
In June, "Brats," a documentary directed by McCarthy about the "Brat Pack" phenomenon and fallout from the magazine article premiered on Hulu, and Lowe told Entertainment Tonight that this film "only added to the excitement around" a possible "St. Elmo's Fire" sequel.

It isn't clear which other original stars could return for the follow-up, but McCarthy previously told People he was interested in the idea.
'Brats':When Andrew McCarthy, Rob Lowe partied with the Rat Pack's Sammy Davis Jr.
"Actually I was talking to Rob Lowe about that very topic about two months ago, and we're like, sure, bring it," McCarthy said. "I think 30, 20 even 10 years ago, people would probably (have) said no. But now I think again, as you get older, you kind of look back on these things with a certain affection and there's nothing to prove to anyone."
He added, "So if somebody wanted do a 'St. Elmo's Fire' sequel, we're here. Talk to us. Because yeah, what happened to Mike? Where'd he go?"
While reflecting on the anniversary of "St. Elmo's Fire" in 2021, Lowe said he loves "that this movie still holds a special place in so many people's hearts."
Moore also recently marked the movie's 39th anniversary on Instagram with a cheeky reference to the "brat summer" phenomenon spawned by the Charli XCX album "Brat." Referring to her character in the film, Moore wrote, "Jules would have loved Brat Girl Summer."
Lowe stars alongside his son John Owen Lowe in the Netflix series "Unstable." In an appearance on "LIVE with Kelly and Mark" last week, Lowe's son admitted he has never seen "St. Elmo's Fire."
"It's hard for me to get invested in it because I have to see his face throughout the whole movie," he joked before telling his dad, "I'm sure you did great."
